Megan Baker House

Follow Up

Follow up sessions are provided for children who have previously accessed other services at Megan Baker House. The session runs on Tuesday mornings from 9am to 10.30am with participants attending once a month.

The sessions take place in either a group or individually, depending on the age and needs of the children.

The sessions focus on the individual needs of the child and give parents the opportunity to observe and take part in the sessions.  This enables them to transfer some of the techniques to the home as well as the expectation and encouragement that is instilled in the sessions.

"Hi, my name is Woody Beavan; Mummy tells me that me and my twin sister had to be born two months early as I was in distress.  When I was born I had to be given oxygen to help me breath but unfortunately the wrong dosage was given and now it has left me with Cerebral Palsy.  This means that I have no balance, my muscles are very stiff in my legs as they don't grow as fast as my bones which makes it difficult for me to strech, sit upright and things like that.  Before Mummy heard of Megan Baker House she was having to try to get me to do things on my own, she made me crawl and now I'm glad she did as I can get around much easier, I've even mastered climbing!  When Mummy took me to Megan Baker House for the first time, I cried because it was strange and I did not know anyone but now I like it very much.  Megan Baker House has taught me to balance, Mummy thought I would never be able to do this but I proved her wrong!!  Then...I walked all by myself, only a few steps to start with but now I can take up to 60 steps, so long as I concentrate on my balancing.  I am also learning how to put my shoes and socks on, although I still need a little help, for now.  Without Megan Baker House I don't think I would have learnt to walk, I am so grateful and Mummy and Daddy are too."  Woody and his Mummy!
